my feed has been full of people saying “check in on your friends” and sharing suicide hotlines the past day (due to a celebrity passing away allegedly from suicide).
i obviously love that more and more people post and talk about mental health, but it’s gotten to a point where the general public needs to move on from these surface level things and do more.
we are not going to “check in on your friends” out of this. you can check in on your friends and family all you want, but it’s not solving the issue as to WHY someone is suicidal. we need more accessible and affordable mental health care.
also, hotlines can only do so much. they’re often a band aid for the larger situation. plus, you have to get lucky when using the service and not get a counselor who doesn’t give a fuck.
