So many Galveston historic homes are decorated for Memorial Day Weekend that it was hard to choose a #StormSurvivorSunday feature on this morning’s stroll! 🇺🇸 With the sun hitting the ~1890 Fred & Lena Metzger House and the American flag hanging from the porch, it was hard to miss this bright, raised cottage. As with most island historic homes, the families have shared both wonderful and devastating memories inside. In 1903, the family welcomed their new baby girl to the family and in 1920 held a wedding reception with “the table adorned with potted ferns, the ends of the leaves being tied with satin streamer reaching across the table and up to a large white bell hanging from the center of the room.” Unfortunately, in 1917 and 1918, the family paid their final respects to their young sons with the funerals of Charles and Theodore being held in the home.
