My ratings explained 👇🏼 The Black Tusk is a hike in Garibaldi Provincial Park in British Columbia. It’s a dormant volcano that has been eroded over thousands of years. It’s around 25k in total with around 1600m elevation gain. It’s a BEAST Difficulty: 4/5 Not going to lie, this hike is a lot of elevation gain so it’s a big ol’ walk. From Helm Creek campground it took me roughly 5 hours to complete, but from the car park add another 2 hours. We never made it to the top because the weather turned and we thought it too unsafe (sometimes you need to listen to the mountains when they tell you no), but the closer to the tusk you get, the ground becomes looser and the trail much less defined. Beauty: 4.5/5 This hike was truly stunning, going up to the campground and beyond you get to see beautiful alpine flower meadows, which quickly become a vast landscape of volcanic rock.
