The UK looks likely to agree to a Youth Mobility Scheme with the EU. So how would an agreement like this actually work?
🤝 The deal would allow young people in the UK and the EU to move and work freely between countries for a limited period of time.
📍 It’s likely to include 18 to 30 year olds, but could potentially extend to under 35’s as well.
🇬🇧 Britain already has similar agreements with 13 countries, including places like Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea.
💪 There is support for such an agreement with a YouGov survey of almost 15,000 people indicating that 66% support this scheme. Compared to just 18% who opposed.
🌏 The scheme is being called the “Youth Experience Scheme” rather than the Youth Mobility Scheme as negotiators are keen to emphasise that there will be some restrictions.
✈️ The government has said this scheme will apply to a limited number and that the numbers between the UK and EU must be equal.
