Michelle Zauner is the creative force behind Japanese Breakfast (jbrekkie) and author of the bestselling book ‘Crying in H-Mart,’ which chronicles her experience mourning the loss of her mother. The book’s popularity swelled concurrently with the release of Japanese Breakfast’s GRAMMY-nominated album ‘Jubilee.’ An overwhelming whirlwind of success and emotions followed, and Zauner took time off from music to travel to Seoul for an extended stay as “cultural maintenance” - a means of staying connected to both her mother and her Korean heritage.
As Japanese Breakfast heads out on tour to support their new album ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women),’ Zauner says that time “living quietly in Seoul” allowed her to be more thoughtful about the record’s production. “I’m super excited to go back on tour again, and think we’ve prepped something really special. I can’t wait to share.”
