Witness an incredible act of nature as one of our hermit crabs switches shells! Hermit crabs come in all shapes and sizes, with long abdomens and soft exoskeletons that allow them to fit perfectly into the spiral shapes of their shells. Shell switching can be triggered by stress, growth, or discomfort, and especially after molting, when a crab’s new body may need more space. Hermit crabs don’t grow their own shells—they find and move into ones left behind by other mollusks. Come see these amazing aquatic animals and many other incredible invertebrates in person at Butterfly Pavilion!
