The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Track and Field championships at Buchanan High School this weekend have sparked controversy as a transgender athlete is set to compete.
Clovis Mayor Pro Tem Diane Pearce highlighted the issue on social media, stating, "A biological male will be competing against our girls and he is favored to win the state title in at least one event."
It's also drawn the attention of President Donald Trump, who previously signed an executive order aimed at keeping men out of women's sports.
The CIF is planning to pilot a new entry process for this weekend's championships as a result of the news, saying in part, "The CIF values all of our student-athletes and we will continue to uphold our mission of providing students with the opportunity to belong, connect, and compete while complying with California law and Education Code.
