What would he be if he wasn't a GP? Bored, says Dr Waqar Ahmed, a GP in Northern Ireland for 15 years.
He is an RCGP member trustee and has represented the Northern Ireland Faculty Board on the RCGP UK Council since 2017.
As well as being a GP, he works as an actor and comedian.
Q: Why did you choose to be a GP?
A: My dad made me.
Q: What's the best thing about being a GP?
A: Creating a shared story with patients.
Q: What's the most frustrating thing about being a GP?
A: Not having the resources to look after patients properly.
Q: What are you most proud of in your career?
A: Doing a workshop with Roger Neighbour at RCGP conference.
Q: What has been the most important lesson you have learnt during your career?
A: Pay attention as much as you can and say as little as humanly possible. I realise that's kind of two lessons but one wouldn't really work without the other.
Q: What is the biggest challenge for current GPs?
A: Not having the funding to care for their patients properly...
