Did you know the Oregon chub was the first fish to be declared recovered under the Endangered Species Act? In 1993, when they were first federally protected, there were fewer than 1,000 of these speckled, silvery minnows in existence. When they came off the endangered species list 22 years later, in 2015, there were more than 140,000 of these fish across 80 populations. The Act is one of the world's most powerful legal tools for protecting species at risk of extinction — and it works! Join us as we celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. #ESAat50 Photo: Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife
