Walrus is a decentralized data storage protocol designed to support high-integrity, verifiable storage with reduced replication overhead. It introduces a custom encoding protocol called “Red Stuff,” intended to enable efficient recovery of lost data and support data verification in asynchronous network environments. Walrus is designed for a range of decentralized use cases, including the storage of NFT assets, application binaries, encrypted datasets, and data needed for blockchain scalability solutions like rollups. In March 2025, Walrus raised $140 million in a token sale ahead of its mainnet launch on March 27, 2025.
