Once again, it’s a great day to be a Tar Heel – one specific Tar Heel, to be exact. UNC women’s lacrosse star Chloe Humphrey was named the winner of the 2025 Tewaaraton Award as the top women’s lacrosse player in the nation Thursday night, less than a week after leading Carolina to its fourth NCAA title. Humphrey is the first freshman ever to win the award; she’s also the first Tar Heel ever to win the award as well. Chloe Humphrey’s season was nothing short of spectacular, from start to finish. She ended with 90 goals, breaking the all-time NCAA record for goals by a freshman and the all-time UNC record for goals in a single season. In Massachusetts for the NCAA Final Four, Humphrey scored an incredible seven goals in the semifinal against Florida and added four more to lead Carolina over Northwestern in the final – getting named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA tournament along the way.
