During Depoe Bay’s 80th annual Fleet of Flowers on Memorial Day, a Coast Guard helicopter lowered a wreath into the ocean to honor the unknown soldier and those lost at sea. Just then, a gray whale surfaced beneath the ceremony, sending up a spout of water. Photographer Ben King, captured the moment. “A big whale gives its blessings,” he wrote.
