🕛 Full Time A new chapter began tonight. Semi-pro women’s soccer officially landed in the southwest suburbs - and the city showed up for it. Loud. Proud. Steel City forward Jianna Church set the tone with a pitch-perfect national anthem that echoed the grit and pride of this place we call home. On the field, it was a baptism by fire in our United Women’s Soccer 2 debut. The final score read 5-1 in favor of Firebirds SC, but it didn’t tell the whole story. Bri Herlihy found the back of the net with a strong finish off a setup from Olivia Ostrowski. These women didn’t flinch. They fought. They laid the foundation. This was just the beginning. 33’ – Firebirds 37’ – Firebirds 53’ – Firebirds 59’ – Firebirds 63 – Herlihy (Ostrowski) 73 – Firebirds Attendance: 164 Up Next: Steel City Women hit the road to face Rockford Raptors on June 8 at 1pm – Wedgbury Stadium, Loves Park, IL.
