IPE decks are low-maintenance, but not “no maintenance.” IPE is an excellent option for privacy fences, rooftop decks, railing and outdoor stairs. If you want IPE to last and keep its original look, reapplying a UV preventive oil should be a part of your summer-prep routine. Resealing an IPE deck isn’t as easy as just pouring some oil on it. If applied haphazardly, you can over-seal the wood which can prevent it from breathing. If we mess with that drastically, a deck can become prone to cracking and aging quickly.
