#Sonder10: Ahmed’s Well 💧
This is the story of a particularly special well drilled in Burkina Faso—not only for the water it provides to a community of thousands, but for the life it honors.
As we reflect on 10 years of impact, we’re reminded that The Sonder Project was founded on the idea of sonder—the realization that every person’s life is as rich, complex, and meaningful as our own.
In 2019, that belief took on even deeper meaning when we inaugurated a well in Loanga, Burkina Faso, in memory of Ahmed Kere—a cherished friend and early volunteer with The Sonder Project. Ahmed was tragically killed during a terrorist attack in January 2016.
Ahmed served as the trip coordinator for our partner organization buildOn during our very first visit to Burkina Faso. He supported our work in its earliest days—alongside our now-Country Director, Martin—with empathy, energy, and conviction.
