The Spelman College Speech and Debate Team had a HISTORIC run at the HBCU National Speech and Debate Championship during their centennial year, where 12 competitors (From Left to Right: Sophia Wade C'28, Anaya Northern C'28, Aislynn Brew C'27, Kafi Rosenbaum C'26, Makayla River C'28, Bryanna Hightower C'28, Jayda Hendrickson C'26, Shelah Boyd C'28, Jocelyn Baker C'27, Laila R. Johnson C'27, Ryley Anthony C'27, Winter Jones C'25) flew to Washington, D.C., to compete at Howard University. After a whole weekend of competing in categories such as Team Debate, Slam Poetry, and Extemporaneous Speaking, the team brought home 12 awards, including being the National Champions in some categories!
