Next in our #UVAOneShot series is Degen Miller, a third-year Media Studies Major from Boulder, Colorado. Degen plays forward for @uvawomensoccer. “My grandfather…had this pillow that said ‘It’s hard to be humble when you went to the University of Virginia.’ He passed away when I was in 5th grade, but for some reason I really remember that needlepoint pillow. “I love soccer and spend a lot of time playing soccer, but I’ve been able to explore a lot of other interests. In my apartment last year, I set up paint sets and stuff. I painted flowers, I painted a zebra most recently, I’ve painted landscapes. “There’s a great community of student-athletes. I’m in the Leadership Academy which I joined last year. It’s student-athletes from each sport and you connect once a month, and listen to leaders on Grounds talk, and you get to interact with them, and do whatever activity they have planned. “I’m just going to try to make the most of my last two years.
