A deeply unsettling incident at one of China’s most treasured sites has sparked national and international concern.⁠ ⁠ On May 30, a domestic tourist reportedly jumped into a restricted display at the Terracotta Army Museum in Xi’an, damaging two ancient statues in Pit No. 3, a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses some of the 8,000 life-sized warriors guarding the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.⁠ ⁠ According to reports, the 30-year-old man climbed over guardrails and a protective net, then pushed and pulled the fragile clay figures. Security quickly intervened and restrained the individual, later identified by his surname Sun.
