#OnThisDay in 1919, the 19th Amendment granting white women the right to vote was passed by the U.S. Senate. But this milestone excluded Black women and most Black Americans who continued to face systemic barriers at the polls until the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
As we approach another election season, we are reminded that voting is not just a right. It is a hard fought victory that must be protected and exercised. Every vote is a voice in the fight for equity, representation, and justice.
