The Department of Energy announced the development of a new supercomputer at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center, or NERSC, a facility at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The new supercomputer, named NERSC-10 or Doudna, is set to be completed late 2026 in collaboration with Dell Technologies and NVIDIA. Users will be able to access it by 2027, NERSC-10 Project Director Hai Ah Nam said. As is its tradition, NERSC names its computing systems in honor of distinguished researchers. NERSC-10 will be named after campus professor Jennifer Doudna, who was co-awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2020 for developing the gene-editing technology CRISPR-Cas9.
