On Friday, Judge Claudia Wilken approved the House v. NCAA settlement, ending three separate federal antitrust lawsuits- all of which claimed the NCAA was illegally limiting the earning power of college athletes. What does this mean? Starting now, all Division 1 schools have the ability to financially compensate their athletes outside of scholarships and NIL, should they choose to. The annual cap will start at $20.5 million per school and increase each school year. NCAA president Charlie Baker believes this change will help schools regain control and help aid the largely unregulated market for paying college players through third parties. The NCAA will also pay nearly $2.8 billion in damages over the next 10 years to athletes who competed in college at any time from 2016-present day. What are your thoughts on this big change?
