The city of Merced is undergoing significant changes as it addresses ongoing challenges, including homelessness and downtown renovations.
Mayor Matthew Serratto visited Great Day on Friday to provide updates on these efforts.
"Homelessness remains a top concern for many communities," said Serratto. "Our Continuum of Care Board just ratified our January 22, 2025, point in time count numbers. Some encouraging news, our top line number was down 14.3%. More importantly, our unsheltered count, which is the street count, that's the more important number, was down 19.2% from last year."
He also discussed the findings from Merced's January homeless count and outlined plans for new housing developments aimed at addressing the issue.
