The McCanns, who are British, were on vacation with other families when 3-year-old Madeleine apparently disappeared from their hotel room while the adults were at a restaurant at the resort. The case soon became an international investigation and in 2020, German investigators announced they had a suspect – Christian Brueckner, a sex offender who is currently serving a prison sentence for raping an elderly woman.
