Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith and his Chief Deputy Ralph Williams spent time behind bars themselves this morning after both were indicted on charges claiming they hired deputies who weren't eligible to work as law enforcement officers.
Smith is charged with six counts of violating article of standards for employing law enforcement officers and Williams is charged with one count of providing false and/or misleading information.
The arrests come in the wake of a whistleblower complaint filed by a Walker County Sheriff's Office investigator that wound up with that deputy's firing and subsequent rehiring after an investigation by the Civil Service Board.
