There were scenes of celebration in the Florida neighborhood of Buenos Aires on Sunday after Club Atlético Platense won its first top-flight Argentine Apertura title.
The team beat Huracán 1-0 in the final at the Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades thanks to a second-half goal from Guido Mainero.
The trophy-winning ending to Platense’s season comes after making a name for itself as a giant killer having beaten a host of traditional Argentine heavyweights – Racing Club, River Plate and San Lorenzo – on the way to the final.
Coached by the tandem of Sergio Gómez and Favio Orsi, it is Platense’s first title in its 120 years of existence.
