A bench inscribed with the words “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” sits in Perry’s Wiese Park next to a newly planted oak tree. The Perry Community School District dedicated the bench and tree in memory of 11-year-old Ahmir Jolliff, a Perry sixth-grade student who was killed in the Jan. 4, 2024, shooting at Perry High School. Jordan Kovac, who had Jolliff in her advisory class, said he always made sure everyone felt included. “If he noticed that someone was sitting by themselves, or off on their own, he would go over and ask them to join him and his friends with the activity they were doing,” Kovac said. “That’s why this buddy bench is the perfect thing for us to have as a community.” Tap the link in our bio for more on this story. #Perry #Iowa
