The former owners of Adventureland have reached a settlement on the eve of the trial of a lawsuit filed against them by the family of a boy who died after an accident on a ride there four years ago. In addition to the death of Michael Jaramillo, 11, several members of his Marion family were seriously injured on July 3, 2021, when their raft overturned on the park's Raging River ride, trapping Michael and brother, David, then 16, underwater for an extended period. The Jaramillos filed suit in 2022 against the Altoona amusement park, which has since changed ownership twice, and Michael Krantz, the CEO at the time of the family-owned company. The case was scheduled to go to trial Monday, June 2, and run for three weeks. But on Sunday, before the first potential juror could be called, the parties instead reached a settlement, attorney Brook Cunningham confirmed Monday for the plaintiffs.
