The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number is making a positive impact by providing a simple, memorable number for people in distress to access help. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration says 98% of people who reach out to 988 are helped by the crisis counselor, resources shared or community connections made during the conversation. The easier 988 number launched nationwide in July 2022 after being underfunded since it was founded in 2005.
