This is an incredible conservation win for Peru’s megadiverse Putumayo‑Amazon landscape!
🔹 A massive reach – 700,778 acres (283,595 ha) now protected in one of Earth’s richest biodiversity hotspots. It safeguards Amazonian forest, rivers, floodplains, and lagoons across Peru’s Putumayo region.
🔹 Biodiversity haven – Home to Harpy Eagles, Yellow-spotted River Turtles, Bush Dogs, and countless plant and aquatic species.
🔹 Community stewardship – Protects local food sources and ancestral territories of more more than 700 Indigenous people of the Murui (Huitoto), Yaguas, Ocaina, Kukama-Kukamiria, Kichwa, Secoya, Maijuna and Bora peoples, while preventing the threats of gold mining and mercury pollution.
