The
#Artemis I mission was the first integrated flight test of NASA’s deep exploration systems—the Space Launch System rocket, the Orion spacecraft, and the Exploration Ground Systems. Although Orion didn’t have a crew on Artemis I, there were a number of very special passengers aboard, including Snoopy — the mission’s zero-gravity indicator. Cameras inside Orion revealed Snoopy bobbing around, indicating the microgravity environment inside the capsule.
The world’s most powerful rocket launched Nov. 16, 2022, sending Orion on its record-breaking mission beyond the Moon. For 25.5 days, the NASAArtemis team completed all mission objectives to prepare future astronauts for their lunar mission. Orion returned to Earth on Dec. 11, 2022, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.
