For Christian Catano, engineering is more than a career—it’s a calling. As a first-year master’s student in the Biomedical Engineering SAGE program at SJSU, Christian has combined his passion for research, mentorship, and leadership to make a lasting impact. From leading the 2024 Bay Area Biomedical Device Conference as BMES Vice President of Conference to mentoring students as a TA and research lab head, he has embraced every opportunity to grow and uplift others.
As a first-generation college student from a Colombian immigrant family, Christian is determined to break barriers in academia and strive to be an example for others. With a plan to earn his Ph.D. and advance mechanobiology research, he hopes to inspire future Latino and first-generation students to pursue STEM careers.
