“The Charleston Municipal Golf Course, affectionately known by locals as “The Muni,” opened for play in 1929. Built on a 120 acre plot along the Stono River, the land was donated by The Jenkins family with the condition it always remain open to the public. The course was also the first desegregated golf course in South Carolina in the early 1960s. After decades of heavy use, The Muni underwent a major multi-million dollar renovation in 2020 led by local architect Troy Miller. The renovation expanded green sizes, rebuilt bunkers and made significant drainage improvements. Furthermore, Miller and his team made a point to emphasize “Raynor-inspired” shaping, featuring several template holes such as Redan, Biarritz, Cape and Short.
