No light without the dark, and apparently no stops on this sailing trip without a run-in with the police. 😅 Rota was a highlight for me, in spite of (or maybe even *because of?) the many “WTF” moments we encountered there…. Accosted by the authorities during a rainstorm, a disastrous attempt at a bonfire, a giant centipede attack, a drone that flew itself straight into the ocean, and an anxiety-ridden free-dive into the black mouth of an underwater cave… just to name a few. 🫣 This theme of light & dark felt so pronounced on this island — with its many caves, dramatic weather, and peaceful cultural traditions juxtaposed against a traumatic war history. Rota took my breath away (and literally, I did my most epic & nerve-wracking breath-holds here).
