After days sailing through Raja Ampat — an archipelago of hundreds of uninhabited, jungle-covered islands in West Papua — we left our wooden sailboat & boarded a dingy to visit one particular, very special island….
Unlike the other little islands nearby (most of which no human has ever set foot on), this one had a small rickety wooden dock built by the locals — the only sign that we weren’t the only people around for hundreds of miles.
Only a few steps later, we were off the wooden dock and back into the wild, climbing up black lava rocks and through thick trees to reach the top of the hill, and then back down again on the other side.
Finally we came across a small, dark blue lake, hidden amongst the jungle on all sides. (It makes me wonder how anyone discovered this lake in the first place. 🤔)
