One of the many other-worldly landscapes on Socotra Island.
This morning we (voluntarily) opted for another 4am wakeup, so that we could be the first people to arrive at Kalysan Canyon. After a quick breakfast of bean stew & flatbread (sounds basic, but I still dream about these meals 🤤) at the top, we made the 30-minute hike down through the canyon.
What looked like your typical grey-brown mountain from above, abruptly transformed into these striking white wave-like rocks when we reached the canyon floor.
The water was a deep vibrant blue-green, so clear you could easily see straight to the bottom. And for most of the morning, we had the canyon entirely to ourselves. 🤗
For 3 hours we jumped off rocks, laid in the sun, swam through the little river, ate mangoes and took photos…
We got sunburnt and giggled a lot and, like everywhere else in Socotra, were completely disconnected from the outside world & therefore so much more present in the moment… which makes these memories fee...
