Lions are fast, but they lack endurance & tire quickly. So they prefer to preserve their energy, and will rarely attempt to hunt an animal they donât have a decent chance at taking down.
To make up for their limitations in stamina, youâll often find female lionesses hunting in groups (and yes, itâs typically the females who hunt!), organizing themselves into a triangular formation to corner & trap unsuspecting prey. Itâs super impressive to watch!
This way, despite animals like zebra and antelope having the benefit of speed + endurance (and therefore able to outrun a single lion), a coalition of clever lionesses can have a chance at catching some dinner.
