Our students are stepping outside the classroom and into nature to study local birds in Barnegat Bay, NJ! 🦆 Jason Weckstein, PhD, associate professor of Biodiversity, Earth and Environmental Science in the Drexel University College of Arts and Sciences (drexel_coas) and his Ornithology class recently visited the bay to observe the many birds that live in this coastal habitat. Students encountered several different species, including the flock of purple sandpipers (pictured second). In addition to engaging with the environment, this course uses the specimens and collections at the Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University (acadnatsci) as a teaching tool, to provide deeper insight into our natural world.
