These new machines are being installed at c-train stations but won't be activated until the Calgary Stampede is over (middle of July). They're scanners for the mobile Calgary Transit app tickets, used to 'validate' the tickets. When someone purchases a ticket in the app, they'll need to activate the ticket, the same as it is now, but they'll then need to 'validate' it at one of these scanners. It can be validated using these scanners at the stations, or with one of the scanners on city buses. You'll only need to validate a ticket once. Once it has been validated, it'll be good to use on any bus or train, until it expires. They're doing this because passengers weren't activating their tickets on the train until they saw a Transit officer at one of the stations.
