Sometimes, during my runs, I talk to my dad like he’s still here. I tell him about my life and ask him questions I know I won’t get real answers to. Maybe it’s silly but it makes me feel closer to him. Today, I asked, “What would you say to me?” And for once, I couldn’t imagine his answer. A little later, I passed a bench with a plaque beneath it. It was dedicated to someone named Mark—my dad’s name. The inscription read, “Enjoy the view.” And just like that, I got my answer. Whether it was a sweet coincidence (if you believe in that kind of thing) or something more, I think that’s exactly what he’d say to me: take in the world around you, breathe it all in, and keep moving forward.
