I had shot umbrellas in studio for client work and thought that I could see what I could do with a self directed assignment that would be so far removed from anything commercial. I focussed on adding mystery by embracing the November snowfall that was somewhat unusual and unexpected. The 6 images that formed the 3 diptychs were shot within about a 30 minute timeframe. I had only brought Tmax with and it was a fortunate choice because I don’t know of any other film with such dynamic range necessary to maintain detail in the snow and black umbrella." - Mark
