‘Bring in the troops’ - that’s the message from U.S. president Donald Trump as protesters continue to take a stand against his immigration crackdown and mass deportation efforts.
Demonstrations escalated on Sunday in a third day of unrest over Trump’s decision to deploy the national guard - sent in to protect federal buildings, including the downtown detention center where protesters convened.
It’s the first time in decades that a state’s national guard was activated without a request from its governor.
Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass blamed the increasingly inflamed protests on Trump's decision to deploy the Guard.
They've both urged protesters to remain peaceful.
