It was a breakaway day for lutsenko_alexey on the criteriumdudauphine Queen stage with the Kazakh rider finding himself in a strong 16-rider move on a day where there was no flat terrain.
Ultimately, the race came down to a GC battle and the group was caught on top of the second of three Hors Categorie climbs. From there, Lutsenko dug deep on the final climb to finish in 18th place and with one day remaining, sits in 15th on GC.
“It was a super hard stage,” explains Lutsenko. “I had the idea to go in the breakaway and I managed to get in it but it wasn’t easy, with the first climb of more than one hour so I was at my limit. On the second climb, Visma exploded the race and caught us so on the final climb, it was just about doing my best. For sure, this is good preparation for the Tour de France.”
