Mitty and I spent some time following the daily lives of lions on the Namiri Plains in the eastern Serengeti with wim_van_den_heever. We watched as they monitored migrating herds across open ground, raised their young on the beautiful rock kopjes and staked out territories across miles of land untouched by development. This was one of the the big males of the group: a proud father of many cubs, with little to fear from his reign at the top of the food chain. Protected areas give us the chance to experience the layered, complex story of life on Earth as it was meant to be—interconnected, vast, and truly wild.
