30 minutes with Unai Emery!
It was a genuine privilege to spend quality time with the man who has completely turned Villa around since last November. Chats with managers are rare and I can’t say enough about how present he was for this sit-down (and Villa fans know how hard it is for Unai to take a seat for more than 30 seconds).
Every answer he gave was thoughtful and passionate, and I don’t think I’ve had an interview where the subject was so in the moment. He is absolutely in love with his craft, and fully devoted to improving Villa and his players in every aspect, tactically and mentally.
He still has a trophy his grandfather won as a goalkeeper back in Spain, and while his father was also a GK, Unai played as a midfielder and when I asked him about his playing days, he laughed and said he wouldn’t play his younger self now because, in his own words, “I’m very demanding!”
