A famous poet once said there's "beauty in the struggle," essentially meaning that the value of an accomplishment is amplified by the challenges overcome in its completion.
Of course, most high school baseball teams in this region would envy what Roy C. Ketcham considers hardship. But, as another famous writer once said, "struggle is in the eye of the beholder." Or something like that.
Because for a program that had grown accustomed to breezing through the section and contending for state titles with a star-studded cast, facing setbacks and being doubted in the regular season had almost become foreign. Ketcham, for the first time in a while, had to prove itself even to itself.
"A lot of people counted us out this year because of who we lost," senior Nick Mondesando said May 31, referring to the six standouts the Storm graduated last spring who now play collegiately. "To come here and prove something, there's no greater feeling."
What the Storm proved was the quality of their depth ...
