FROM THE MUSEUM COLLECTIONS: People have visited Anastasia Island to see the Lighthouse and other attractions for years before the famous Bridge of Lions was completed in 1927. There were several ways to get to the island, most commonly by boat, but in 1895, a wooden bridge that eventually had a trolley was constructed to help bring more intrigued visitors to the island. This is a close-up photo of the ticket booth that greeted eager tourists who wanted to visit the island. The ticket booth reads, “Take a trip to South Beach, No better anywhere. Lighthouse, Jetties, Anastasia Burning Spring, Coquina Quarries, the only place to gather specimens, good hotels, fine bicycling. Train starts from the other end of bridge, enquire the ticket window for time cards, or any information.” #staugustinelighthouse #staugustine #collections #museum #anastasiaisland #saintaugustine #history #1800s #photooftheday
