#InMemoriam: Morehouse College mourns the passing of Thomas J. Wells ’74, a dedicated alumnus and longtime supporter of the Maroon Tiger athletic community.
Coach Wells served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Morehouse Track & Field team for over three decades, beginning in 1987. A former student-athlete himself, he competed in football, discus, and javelin during his time at the College. Beyond his technical expertise, Wells was widely known as a mentor, motivator, and constant presence in the lives of Morehouse men both on and off the field.
His impact stretched far beyond athletics, shaped in part by his years of service as a Center Director for the City of Atlanta’s Department of Parks and Recreation from 1973 to 1998. The Morehouse community honors his legacy and contributions with deep gratitude. He leaves behind a lasting imprint on generations of students, athletes, and fellow alumni.
