In April, a fire broke out at the Wellfleet town pier, destroying the clamming boat owned by the Viprino family. Chris Viprino, a commercial fisherman with over 15 years of experience, arrived to find the 44-foot vessel, he carefully rebuilt just last year, completely lost. The fire also claimed tens of thousands of dollars in tools, gear, and equipment essential to his work on the water. The loss has been a significant hardship for the family, who depend on Chris’s fishing as their primary source of income while raising their 2 young children.
