But few knew the man. 🎥 #skoden (skoden.film), premiering June 4 at imagineNATIVE, tells the real story of Pernell Bad Arm — the Blackfoot man whose image became a viral symbol across NDN Country. Originally meant to bond us through rez slang and relatable uncle energy, the meme spread far and wide, without ever asking who he was, or what he’d lived through. This heartfelt documentary by Damien Eagle Bear, a filmmaker from the same community as Pernell (Kainai Nation), reframes the narrative through the voices of his family and friends. Beyond the meme, we learn about a life shaped by joy, grief, resilience, and spirit. Pernell was Niitsitapi. A son. A brother. A thinker.
