The Students of Color Alliance led the charge in observing Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May. Last year at this time, SOCA adviser Tonya Moore introduced us to SOCA members Jasmine Aung and Tegan Hahn, who were freshmen at the time, and they proceeded to share with us why connecting with their Asian heritage was so important to them. Since that time, both have joined MacJ and made frequent and significant contributions to our coverage of all sorts of school activities: theatre, orchestra and a lot more. When May rolled around, and Aung, Hahn and their SOCA colleagues prepared for another year of celebrating their heritage, it felt like an anniversary of sorts. SOCA members advertised the heritage month with hallway posters, had snacks for sale, conducted a lunch and learn and had a huge turnout for their free springs rolls give away in the main hallway.
